Update on park café

  • You will have probably noticed the park café has only been open sporadically over the last few months.

  • The park café is now formally completely closed for business.

  • Manchester City Council (MCC) are doing some redecoration and will then be putting it out to tender.

  • MCC are hoping to have a new café operator in place by February 2027.

Tree Walk Announced

  • Want to learn more about the wonderful variety of trees in our beautiful park, then come along on our free tree walk on Sunday 20th September.

  • Starts at 10:00am. Meet at the park café.

  • A walk around the trees in Fog Lane Park led by Joe Walsh, former Tree Officer for Manchester City Council and member of the Royal Forestry Society.

  • Free of charge.

PARKTASTIC in Fog Lane Park

  • Over the summer months the city council will be running a regular series of children’s activities in the park.

  • The play sessions run from 5pm to 7pm every Thursday from 18th June to 17th September.

  • The sessions are open to all children.

City Nature Challenge

  • Want to help document and record all the wonderful nature in our park? Then why not take part in the annual international City Nature Challenge.

  • The City Nature Challenge is an international effort for people to find and document plants and wildlife in cities. It's an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April, where cities collaborate to see what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal.

  • The challenge runs between 24th - 27th April 2026.

  • Why participate? There is nature all around us! Knowing what species are in our city and where they are helps us study and protect them, but the ONLY way to do that is by all of us – scientists, land managers, and the community – working together to find and document the nature in our area. By participating in the City Nature Challenge, not only do you learn more about your local nature, but you can also make your city a better place – for you and other species!

  • Share your observations through iNaturalist or your city’s chosen platform. Manchester is already registered as a participating city in the City of Nature Challenge and there are already plenty of entries on the iNaturalist website for Fog Lane Park, so why not join in.

South Manchester Camera Club park photo exhibition

  • An exhibition of photographs of the park taken by members of the South Manchester Camera Club.

  • 14th March 2026 onwards, in the park café.

  • We have launched our newsletter!!

  • Our newsletter keeps you updated with things happening in the park and all things park related.

Park wins ‘Gold’ award again!

In June 2025 judges from the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) came to look at Fog Lane Park for the RHS It’s Your Neighbour judging. This was the culmination of all the hard work of the park Gardening Group and other volunteers. In November we got the results of the judging and the park achieved a grade of Outstanding (equivalent to Gold award) in the RHS Britain in Bloom It’s Your Neighbourhood awards with a mark of 92 out of 100. This was fifth consecutive year of achieving an Outstanding award. If you want to know more about the park Gardening Group and volunteering in the park, then you can read more here.
