Nature Walk Announced

  • Want to learn more about the ecology and diverse nature in our beautiful park, then come along on our free nature walk on Monday 10th August.

  • Starts at 10:30am. Meet at the park café.

  • It’s 90minute jaunt organized and guided by fungi expert Dave Higginson-Tranter.

  • See and discuss 50 species in 90 minutes.

PARKTASTIC in Fog Lane Park

  • Over the summer months the city council will be running a regular series of children’s activities in the park.

  • The play sessions run from 5pm to 7pm every Thursday from 18th June to 17th September.

  • The sessions are open to all children.

Bat Walk Success

  • We had an amazing 35 people on our Bat Walk on 20th May who got to see common pipistrelle and soprano pipistrelle bats in the park.  The volunteers from South Lancashire Bat Group shared their amazing knowledge of bats’ habits and habitats and the legal protection around them and responded to some great questions. Two of our favourite facts are that UK bats can live to at least 42 and that this is only known because one was found that had been tagged 42 years earlier!

  • Bat detectors in hand we were able to track the bats as they were feeding on midges along tree lines and around the pond – and we learnt that when they catch their prey they make a raspberry sound!

  • We hope to do further nature tours in coming months so keep an eye on our news and events pages on our website or on our Facebook page.

Corinthians film to show on BBC4

  • The film about the trailblazing Corinthians football team, who played in Fog Lane Park, is to be shown on BBC4 next week. The film premiered at HOME cinema in March this year and is highly entertaining and fascinating to watch.

  • 10pm, 19th May 2026 on BBC4.

City Nature Challenge

  • Want to help document and record all the wonderful nature in our park? Then why not take part in the annual international City Nature Challenge.

  • The City Nature Challenge is an international effort for people to find and document plants and wildlife in cities. It's an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April, where cities collaborate to see what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal.

  • The challenge runs between 24th - 27th April 2026.

  • Why participate? There is nature all around us! Knowing what species are in our city and where they are helps us study and protect them, but the ONLY way to do that is by all of us – scientists, land managers, and the community – working together to find and document the nature in our area. By participating in the City Nature Challenge, not only do you learn more about your local nature, but you can also make your city a better place – for you and other species!

  • Share your observations through iNaturalist or your city’s chosen platform. Manchester is already registered as a participating city in the City of Nature Challenge and there are already plenty of entries on the iNaturalist website for Fog Lane Park, so why not join in.

South Manchester Camera Club park photo exhibition

  • Our newsletter keeps you updated with things happening in the park and all things park related.

Park wins ‘Gold’ award again!

In June 2025 judges from the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) came to look at Fog Lane Park for the RHS It’s Your Neighbour judging. This was the culmination of all the hard work of the park Gardening Group and other volunteers. In November we got the results of the judging and the park achieved a grade of Outstanding (equivalent to Gold award) in the RHS Britain in Bloom It’s Your Neighbourhood awards with a mark of 92 out of 100. This was fifth consecutive year of achieving an Outstanding award. If you want to know more about the park Gardening Group and volunteering in the park, then you can read more here.
